Discover art in Tokyo: Time Out Tokyo releases ‘Time Out Japan Magazine’ issue 6 on October 30
From the TOKYO ATLAS International Art Exhibition on the waterfront to manga and anime exhibitions and public art, a special art guide to make the most of autumn in Tokyo this year
ORIGINAL Inc., operator of Time Out Tokyo, will publish issue 6 of ‘Time Out Japan Magazine’ — a magazine proposing new lifestyles that connect travel and everyday life — on Friday, October 30, 2026, in Japanese and English editions. Themed on art in Tokyo, this issue introduces what to look out for in the city’s art scene right now, from a large-scale international art exhibition on the waterfront to a pop-up art club in a former capsule hotel.
Art in Tokyo lives outside the museums, too
Tokyo is home to many world-class museums and galleries. Yet much of the most interesting art in this city lies outside them. On street corners, in late-night bars and in ambiguous vacant lots along the waterfront, you can come across it almost anywhere — if you know where to look. The cover carries the message ‘ART is everywhere in Tokyo if you know where to look’. This autumn, the perfect season to feel the pulse of art, we bring you a guide to discovering art as you walk the city.
TOKYO ATLAS, the first international art exhibition on Tokyo’s waterfront, and public art to enjoy any time
At the TOKYO ATLAS International Art Exhibition, running until Sunday, December 20, more than 20 artists and groups present site-specific works across Tokyo’s waterfront area, where the city itself becomes both subject and stage. Alongside such limited-time exhibitions, the issue also features a curated selection of public art in Tokyo that you can enjoy at any time.
From manga and anime exhibitions to body art and fashion
From the many manga and anime exhibitions taking place in Tokyo in November and December, the editorial team has picked out their favourites. The issue also turns its attention to body art and fashion, forms of artistic expression in their own right, introducing personal styles unique to Tokyo.
‘The 10 best places to visit in Japan right now’ and a walking guide to Karuizawa
Heading out of Tokyo, the issue also presents ten things to experience across Japan this season. It also includes a walking guide to the quieter side of Karuizawa and a peek into one of the coolest neighbourhoods in Japan today. The content is not only useful for sightseeing but will also change the way you see the places you know.
‘Time Out Japan Magazine’ will be distributed free of charge at commercial facilities, airports, hotels and Time Out Market Osaka in major cities across Japan. All articles will also be available on the web and in the digital edition from the publication date.
